Join Tees Archaeology for an afternoon of exploration and fun on Sunday 3 September 2017, from 2.00-4.00pm, at Daffodil Park, Billingham.
Medieval History
Daffodil Park, in Low Grange, Billingham, is the site of a medieval manor house which belonged to the Prior of Durham.
The land, now a public park, was given to the Priory shortly after the Norman Conquest. It became a farming centre and between 1258 and 1273, Prior Hugh de Darlington built a grand manor house on the site which even boasted a clock, a very rare feature in the 14th century!
World War Two Mystery & Demolition in the ’60’s
All the buildings were demolished in the 1960’s however archaeology can still reveal evidence of the area’s past, including some mysterious structures and air raid damage from World War 2.
Guided Walk
Discover the secrets of the parkland on a guided walk with archaeologist, Robin Daniels, from 2.30pm.
Hands On Archeology , Crafts & Story Telling
Become an archaeologist, sorting finds and deciphering runes.
Make your own ‘medieval’ pot and piece of decorative leatherwork with our visiting craftspeople including Evancliffe leathercraft.
Listen to stories from times gone by with our story-teller and practice writing like the monks!
