Evancliffe Leathercraft will be demonstrating traditional leatherwork and running our popular leather stamping activity alongside other heritage craft exhibitors and demonstrators at the 239thWolsingham Show on 1st & 2nd September 2018. There will be a small charge to take part in our Stamping Activity.

Saturday is Agricultural Day and there’s always lots to see and do including the Craft Tent, Donkey Rides, Vintage Vehicles, Birds of Prey Display, Diggerland, Alpacas, Dog Agility Show, Artisan Food Market, Sulky Racing, Great Live Music, Strongman Competition, Fur and Feather, Industrial & Produce, Heavy Livestock, Sheep Dog Trial, Shopping Marquee, Kids Rides, Special Attractions, The Grand Parade of prize winning stock and over 100 trade stands with everything from Tractors to Toffee so book your tickets now and have a great day!

Sunday is Country Fair day and amongst the many great things to see and do are the KC Dog Show, Ferret Show, Horticulture, Alpacas, Ponies, Marquee Displays, Dog Agility, Terriers and Lurchers, Artisan Food Market, Great Live Music, Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, Mountgrace Gundogs, Digegrland, Vintage Vehicles and Stationary Engines, Line Dancing, Special Attractions, The Grand Parade of prize winning stock and much more! Bring the whole family and enjoy an amazing day out in the beautiful surroundings of Weardale, County Durham.

Maker Faire UK  – Life Science Centre, Newcastle

Saturday & Sunday 28th & 29th April 2018

Maker Faire UK is the greatest show and tell on Earth! Taking place on Saturday 28 – Sunday 29 April 2018 at Life Science Centre in Newcastle, it’s a two-day family-friendly festival of invention and creativity.

It brings together over 300 hackers, crafters, coders, DIYers and garden shed inventors from across the globe. People who love to make stuff and who want to share their passion with the public.

It’s really great fun for adults and kids alike, with all sorts of different things to try your hand at from traditional crafts to hi-tech hacks. The atmosphere is one of collaboration, sharing and experimenting, where you’ll try new things, deepen existing knowledge and have loads of fun! Be prepared to be inspired. Don’t be afraid to get stuck in!

See examples of handcrafted leather goods and have a go at this traditional skill with Evancliffe Leathercraft. We’ll guide you through a Leather Stamping Workshop*, where you can use the provided stamps to create your own unique leather wristband, keyring, bookmark or other shape, which can then be dyed a colour of your choice.

Two Day Leather Bag Making Workshop Launched!

Leather Bag Workshop - Evancliffe Leathercraft

Learn to make a hand stitched leather bag in this two day workshop by Evancliffe Leathercraft.

Evancliffe Leathercraft are pleased to announce the launch of their new two day Leather Bag Workshop. This is an ideal introduction to leatherwork through the making of your own leather bag at Evancliffe Leathercraft’s Wolsingham base overlooking beautiful Weardale in County Durham.

First Scheduled Dates:

Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th October 2018. (10:00am – 5:30pm Day One, 9:am – 4:30pm Day Two)

Book onto the Bag Making Workshop:

What you learn:

  • Mark and cut out leather.
  • Cutting leather to form straps.
  • Dying Veg Tan Leather.
  • Preparing the leather to be stitched including marking and making the holes for stitching.
  • Hand stitching leather using the traditional saddle stitch method.
  • Riveting leather.
  • Attaching accessories such as D-rings, fasteners, sliders and buckles*.
  • Burnishing & Applying finish the leather.

Choose from a selection of patterns with the potential to add your own customisation to the bag as well. (* Some items used will depend on the style of bag chosen.)

Leather Bag Workshop Duration:

The workshop runs from 10:00am – 5:30pm on Day 1 and 9:00am – 4:30pm on Day 2.

What is Included in the Leather Bag Workshop:

All leather and tool use is included in the price of the workshop. We include tea, coffee and biscuits in the price however participants should bring their own packed lunch and any snaks / soft drinks you require each day. Accommodation IS NOT included in the price but Evancliffe Leathercraft are members of the Weardale Visitor Network. What to Wear:

Closed toe footwear should be worn. If you wish to protect your clothing (from dye etc.) please bring a suitable apron. As we use a stitching pony to hold the work we also recommend wearing trousers instead of a skirt or kilt.

Local Attractions & Accommodation:

Many of our students travel some distance to take part in our workshops and may need to find accommodation for one or two nights locally. Many also remark on how beautiful Weardale is, something that you will see first-hand if you take part in one of our workshops overlooking Weardale.

Cancellation Policy:

If you need to cancel your booking for any reason please contact us as soon as possible.
Our refund policy is:

Over 28 days before the workshop date: Full refund OR alternative date if available.
Between 14 and 28 days before the workshop date: 75% refund OR alternative date if available.
Less than 14 days before the workshop date: No refund given.

Refunds due will be paid to the original payee by the original payment method. If you do not turn up for your workshop, you will not be eligible for a refund nor will you be eligible to move your booking to an alternative date.
In the unlikely event that a workshop has to be cancelled by Evancliffe Leathercraft, you will be offered the choice of a full refund or the opportunity to book onto an alternative workshop (if available). You will be given as much notice as possible if a workshop has to be cancelled.

This policy may be subject to change so please check at the time of booking. The policy in place at the time of booking a place on a workshop will apply in the event of cancellation.

Leather Stamping at Preston Park Museum & Grounds

Sunday 11th February 2018 & Sunday 8th April 2018 – 10:00am – 4:00pm

Evancliffe Leathercraft will be providing our popular Leather Stamping Activity for visitors to Preston park Museum & Grounds on Sunday 11th February & Sunday 8th April 2018.

Key rings, bookmarks, wristbands and other leather shapes will be available to choose from. You can add tyour own design using a variety of traditional stamp patterns, using them to make individual patterns or combining them to make more complicated designs. Be amazed as we add colour and see the how it highlights the pattern you have created.

There will be a small charge of £1.00 per item for the stamping activity in addition to the museum admission ticket.

In addition to Leather Stamping and all the other attraction of Preston Park Museum & Grounds  the first of these events takes place during “A Winter Skirmish”.  A Winter Skirmish is an exhibition about the English Civil War, in particular The Battle of Yarm . The second event takes place during the museums annual Folk & Farmers Market event.
