Join us at Palace Green Library for this special one day workshop.

By the end of the day, participants will leave with their own, handcrafted leather pouch. Along the way, you will learn various skills such as stitching, riveting and cutting leather. There will also be the opportunity to dye and finish the leather, making each pouch personal to its creator.

Leatherwork would have been a familiar activity for many of the Scottish soldiers who were marched to Durham and kept prisoner after their defeat at the Battle of Dunbar in the seventeenth century. Much of their clothing, shoes and kit would have made good use of this natural, useful and hard-wearing material.

This workshop is suitable for adults. No previous leatherwork experience is necessary. Cold drinks and biscuits will be provided throughout the day and the Courtyard Café will be open should you wish to purchase hot drinks, cold bottled drinks, soups, sandwiches and snacks.
